Disappointing Health Care Proposals from the Candidates
So far three Democrats (Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Edwards) and one Republican, (Mitt Romney) have put forward plans for health-care reform. For supporters of free market health care, it is looking like a very long and disappointing campaign. After looking at Obama's long-awaited health-care plan, Cato scholar Michael D. Tanner concludes that, "[i]f enacted it would cost Americans dearly — in higher taxes, lost jobs, reduced freedom of choice, and lower quality health care." And Michael F. Cannon has recently highlighted disturbing similarities between Mitt Romney's Massachusetts reforms and "HillaryCare," the reform plan put forth by Hillary Clinton in the early 1990s.

QUOTE
Cato's Mission
The Cato Institute seeks to broaden the parameters of public policy debate to allow consideration of the traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty, free markets and peace. Toward that goal, the Institute strives to achieve greater involvement of the intelligent, concerned lay public in questions of policy and the proper role of government.

It is indeed depressing that if any of the democrats presently running (other than Kucinich) gets
elected, health care will get worse in this country because most of the new resources will go to
Insurance and drug companies and to large corporate health care providers. Health care will
become more expensive and more of a burden on the working poor, but it won't be a more effective or efficient system. It will be corruption and incompetence and business as usual.
