Just dropping by to say Happy Easter to you all....
I'm kind of sad today. Doesn't feel much like Easter when there are no children about. I know, I know, there are plenty of things I could do to remedy the situation, but right now I'm choosing to wallow in it.

Young Peg is in California getting ready to spend the day with her boyfriend's family. *pout*

Why don't you go to church? You'll feel the Easter spirit there! (Just kidding)

I'm working today so it is a regular day over here except that I gave the day off to the woman who normally works on Sundays.

Is anyone else having a problem with this board? I can't see any options for colors or text, much less an ability to post images here. Ah... and the emoticons are all gone.

I suspect that it's going to be mighty quiet around here. Graham and that rabble rouser Frenchy will be away for a bit.

On the other hand, I've been hearing rumors that a certain high school teacher in California has been seen tiptoeing about.

Good morning, everyone! Yesterday was a long day. We went to Rhode Island to see Dr. Doolittle then stopped at the Wrentham Outlets to skip the Boston traffic. I don't think Sky had ever walked so much in his life. He was exhausted and slept all the way home.

Why are we still there?

We occupied this land, which we had to take by force, but it causes us
nothing but trouble.
Why are we still there?

Many of our children go there and never come back.
Why are we still there?

Their government is unstable, and they have sloppy leadership.
Why are we still there?

Many of their people are uncivilized.
Why are we still there?

There are many hostile religious sects, which we do not understand.
Why are we still there?

Why are we still there?

Well since the Air Force will let me still wear BDUs until 2011 I went out to the barn to rummage through a couple a sea bags. One disadvantage of farm life is mice, my old BDUs look like someone pumped a couple of twelve guage rounds through them. Besides, I don't think the Air Force would appreciate me showing up in BDUs with USMC and the Eagle Globe and Anchor stenciled on to the left breast pocket. I'd bought a set of new BDUs last month to use for my starchies and figure I might a been able to find another set usuable for everyday wear.

But my boots are in good shape and I'll shine them up just to show them they don't make them like they used to. I got eight pairs in various need of retreading.

I'd forgot how old some of that stuff is, I found the boots I'd been issued in November of 1970. Still servicable, been resoled and reheeled about 200 times but still good boots. I know them because in boot camp they have you stamp your name inside with a do it yourself stamp pad and the left boot I stamped upside down. Caused me all kinds of grief from the DI but no one ever seemed to care after boot camp.

Also found a picture of a young Lance Corporal in his winter greens put away for safe keeping; brought it in to see if the wife remembered him. I thought she was going to cry, we been through a lot since then.

I am boycotting CGCS a bit, but not this thread, Doc. I will continue to post here from time to time, because I do regard many of the people who post in this thread as friends.

As for the rest of the board, I got a little tired of the "either with us or against us" mentality. Since I'm not "with 'em" I am voluntarily removing myself from the discussion, as neither side really listens to the others' point of view anyway.

I'm also very pissed off that Frenchy got suspended this past weekend for one comment that he made 7 days prior. The way rules are enforced on this board lately leaves me very confused.

You would love the weather we're having this week....it's beautiful! Right now, it's 74° under partly cloudy skies; our humidity is pretty moderate (68%) and there's a very nice breeze coming in from the southeast. Bubbles and I are getting ready to go out to do some gardening! flowersun.gif

Only you Fly could make me change my mind. OK I'll hang in. And I won't do anything to disturb things here.

There isn't much I wouldn't do for you.

Toe wrestling won't work. Nothing will. There are some people who just never agree on matters of principle. We all see things as we believe. Right or wrong.

As for our recuperating friend.. with all the love and prayers we are all sending her way , that lady will be back in fighting form before we know it. I'd bet money on it. She's solid gold with an inner core of strength that can defeat anything.

I may just send Tuffy to live with you btw... he's more of a rebel than I am. He has developed a very bad habit which I'm strugglng with. He has been completely housebroken for a long time now but I have still kept gates up so he could only get in the living and dining rooms when I let him. He loves to look out the bay window which has a low sill and having the run of the place , including upstairs into the bedrooms etc. Part of the reason I have continued the gates is because once in there he has full access to the front door. I have already had one occasion when he slipped out when I answered the door and was gone like the wind up the street,. Almost giving me a heart attack. I could never have caught him. Someone else did and brought him back to me. The road is only a few feet from the public sidewalk and our street gets a lot of traffic from those detouring to avoid the main street one over from us. Its far too dangerous for him to be out there without a leash.

He always comes with me when I am cleaning or making beds etc and he loves being in there but in the past few weeks he has taken to marking his territory in the living room almost every time I take him in there. He hasn't for the past three days but that is the first glimmer of hope that he is getting the message that he cannot do that. Of course I sanitize and clean each time he does it so there is no residual odour but he just picks a new spot. I have no confidence however that the behaviour of the past three days will be permanent.

Any suggestions will be welcome.

Thanks all for all the good wishes on Pawling. The house is awesome. My son loves it. My extended family of inlaws love it. I hope it will become a gathering place for them. No, its not finished - needs a ton of landscaping, fencing, and a paved driveway which will get done last after some plantings. Spent the few days up there doing a closing, transfering electricity, oil and propane into my name, setting up a kitchen, checking outlets, running all the faucets, learning a little bit about all the utilities in my basement which is beginning to resemble a small industrial park. Am trying out a solar powered water heater as a supplement to the water heater to reduce propane costs. Still have a ton of work to do, but its exciting. Drove back to DC yesterday in the rain. Will return in about 10 days. Glad to see that this place is still here. It too is a gathering place. flowersun.gif

Snuff, one of my absolute favourite things has always been setting up a new home. I always hated the packing up and moving but putting your stamp on new surroundings and turning it into a home is such fun and , at least for me, it was always exciting creating that fresh new start. I've moved 17 times in my life, and can't say I've enjoyed any of 'em all that much. Next one's gonna definitely be the last!
I couldn't agree more!

Where are you moving to next?

When Joe was alive, we moved five times on average every five years:DC to Los Angeles, to Detroit, to Washington DC, to San Francisco. Then I moved back to DC. and am now contemplating retiring in New York. Either remodelled old Victorians or built a new house with each move. Got really good at moving - learned that old lesson that I didn't want to unpack at the other end things that should have been left behind and thrown out. Must say I do remember the days when I took pride in the fact that everything I owned I could fit in my car. These days its a moving van. Actually, I'm driving up a good amount of stuff. Better watch out Doc - you are only two hours away - within driving distance! By now it should be obvious that I don't mind driving anywhere. Beats airports.

The only time I could fit everything into my car was when I was in college. It was a good feeling! So, if you are two hours from Fly, should I expect a visit here as well?
