Full Version: Help to support CGCS
Common Ground Common Sense > Online Café > Online Café
Michael
I am in the process of incorporating CGCS as a nonprofit organization here in Oregon. When that process is completed, I will move the bank account here and the paypal account will be updated as well and this will permit a standard donation process. I expect this process to take a week or two. Until then, I request all members who wish to make a donation use the sponsor process by following the link below:

http://www.commongroundcommonsense.org/sponsor.htm

Just select the number of sponsorships that is the closest to the total you wish to donate, for example if you wish to donate $16.00 select 2 sponsorships.

If you would like to make a donation by check or money order, (made payable to Common Ground Common Sense) the new address is:

Common Ground Common Sense
944 N Street
Springfield, OR 97477

My thanks to all members for their support and encouragement, as well as your patience while I sorted out these details, as well as got our household moved from MN to OR and sought employment. It has been a challenge but two months to do all that isn't too bad in my view.

Kindest regards to all,

Michael

While the site is being retooled I think I'll
Google Earth Michaels new digs - just kidding.

I'll be back.

I've heard conflicting reports -- exactly how much is needed to keep this site up for another year?

Perhaps you could keep us updated on the progress of donations towards that goal, and the time by which the amount is needed before you would have to fold it up.

Is there a final date, and also, what is the exact time this $3500.00 will cover. Thanks.
Michael's post on the 5 possiblities...#1 is the only one alot of people think should be the # going for

Solution #1 Cost = $3,500.00 or more
Keep the Invision dedicated server. Upgrade to the latest version (restoring chat and some other stuff that broke during the last upgrade). Try to get new subscribers and continue to work on growing our community and improving our relationships to each other. Recruit new mods and accept that they are volunteers and will not be perfect and will miss some things and make an occasional bad call. Try to stay afloat as long as possible and in subsequent years consider dropping to one of the options below.

Solution #2 Cost = $1,000.00 - $3,500.00
Get a different dedicated server, take the risk of a forum crash and pay Invision for tech support if it breaks. Otherwise, the same as Solution #1 Maintain subscriptions and donations to try and stay afloat long as possible and in subsequent years consider dropping to one of the options below.

Solution #3 Cost = $750.00 - $1,000.00
Cut off all search engines, and block all guests and non-subscribing members from reading the forum. Move forum to an Invision non-dedicated server. Maintain subscriptions and donations to try and stay afloat for as long as possible.

Solution #4 Cost = $200.00 - $750.00
Move to a generic, non-dedicated server and and block all guests and non-subscribing members from reading the forum. Maintain donations and subscriptions to try and stay afloat for as long as possible.

Solution #5 Cost = $0 - $200.00
Move to a generic, non-dedicated server and and block all guests and non-subscribing members from reading the forum. Close the paypal account, stop taking new subscriptions and return any new donations and stay afloat until the last subscription expires. Then wish CGCS goodby.

You have to select more than one sponsorship to donate more than $7.95, so selecting two sponsorships will charge at total of $15.90, three will charge $23.85 etc.

Hi Michael,

Why not another option for members... a $ 2 or $ 3 per month membership fee. Of course, if only a few opt for this plan it wouldn't work but $ 2 a month is so little that hardly anyone would miss it. It may be a more attractive option for some... It may make committment easier for some especially given the uncertainty of the moment.

Just a thought.

Yep!
Knew that, but... -points at your first post- You said $8. So, was just wondering.

I was just rounding the number up 5 cents for the artihmatic impaired like myself. The actual sponsorship/donation is in increments of $7.95

Just wondering. How did you arrive at the odd dollar amount of $7.95? Why not just $10? I hope what I mailed will not destroy your system somehow.

OK...in for 4...Michael, you chose who needs the other 3 cause you'll know better.
(The name may say Forrest, my better half's former name, or
ScarlettandRhett, our ebay name.)

Did it when I got the e-mail --- let me know if more is needed....

Because that is 2 cents per day - the price of a subscription.

Michael:

Is there any way to give us a running tally of the costs and expenses of the website?

I know in most instances this should remain private information, but perhaps there is some way you can tell us should we give a monthly total of such and such or an annual total of such and such...to keep the site up and running?
tazvil04
What ever happened to the Future of CGCS thread?
lenal

My recall is that Michael closed that.
