From “The Road to 9/11: Wealth, Empire and the Future of America” by Peter Dale Scott (pages 73-75)

“The ultimate costs of Brzekinski’s adventure included not only the “agitated Muslims” of al Qaeda and Iraq, but also what formerCIA al Qaeda expert Mike Scheuer has called “the Afghan heroin factories that have killed more Americans than the 11 September attacks.” …[See Imperial Hubris: Why The West is Losing the War on Terror, as well as Alfred McCoy’s Politics of Heroin. ]

“… only Brzezinski’s writing authority can explain why by 1980 psychiatrist David Musto of the White House Strategy Council on Drug Abuse was being excluded, illegally, from access to White House documents about the opium-growing Afghan mujahideen.” [McCoy, op. cit.]

“The question is rather why Brzezinski agreed to an alliance with this drug connection, and proceeded almost immediately to protect it from critical snoops like David Musto. My answer to this important question will become more obvious by the end of this chapter. It is important to establish why the United States accepted an arrangement whereby of the $2 billion it supplied to the mujahideen in the1980s, Hekmatyat, a leading drug trafficker, is estimated to have received more than half.” [McCoy, op. cit.]

“In May 1980…., Musto noted that the number of drug-related deaths in New York had risen by 77 percent.” [Letter to New York Times, May 22,1980; see also McCoy, op. cit., as well as Whiteout: The CIA, Drugs and the Press, Jeffrey St. Clair.]

“… the likelihood of a conscious and deliberate cover-up is enhanced by the 9/11 Commission Report’s total suppression of Cheney’s first story, its elaborate protection of Cheney’s second story, and above all its blatant failure to mention important contradictory evidence against the second story from the three most important eyewitnesses in the White House: Mineta, Clarke and (as I have just shown) Cheney himself.”

“Lying about public policy, particularly foreign policy, is a familiar tradition in American politics, and one that spans both parties. What we are talking about here is misrepresentations, including possible lies, about a crime, the largest homicide in the history of the United States. So much remains unknown about that crime, from the identity of the hijackers to the circumstances that let them reach their targets, that the crime must be considered unsolved. In these circumstances the misrepresentations of the 9/11 Commission Report are not only evidence of a deception and cover-up, they justify grave suspicions as to what is being covered up.

“When asked for my opinion of what happened on 9/11, I customarily answer that I am sure of only one thing: that there has been a significant cover-up of vital issues. But there is one other conclusion that can be drawn from the available evidence: At a moment when the nation was under attack, Cheney and Rumsfeld both simultaneously absented themselves for a period from their associates about which they have since been deceptive, the report is silent or misleading, and the facts are unknown. I find all this very suggestive. If Cheney and Rumsfeld were discussing issues too sensitive for even the audience in the PEOC to hear, the two of them were almost certainly not acting on their own. More probably they were the key figures in a highly classified operation that must have involved others.”

Conversations with History: Institute of International Studies, UC Berkeley

Conversations host Harry Kreisler welcomes Professor Peter Dale Scott for a discussion of secrecy and its consequences in the making of U.S. foreign policy.

Their discussion focuses on CIA interventions, the rise of al Qaeda, the role of U.S. government in supporting Islamic jihadists to counter Soviet power during the Cold War, and the response of the Bush administration to the 9/11 attack.

Using Federal Government Equipment to Modify Wikipedia
August 27, 2007
By Ralph Smith
URL: http://www.fedsmith.com/articles/articles....p?intArticleI...

An excerpt:

“One of the most interesting uses of government equipment to modify Wikipedia is from within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The VA is a large, diverse agency with several different addresses used by different parts of the organization.

The most striking feature of the VA edits is that the most common topic of interest appears to be different aspects of conspiracy theories surrounding the bombing of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11. Many of the hundreds of Wikipedia edits surrounding this one topic are from a computer address assigned to the VA hospital in Martinez, California (198.207.168.65) It's not clear, of course, if the facilty computers are from one person or several who must work hard to check out all entries related to this topic.

At least one other person using a VA computer assigned to the agency in Washington (152.131.10.133) also appears to be intensely interested in the topic.”

The Necessary Embrace of Conspiracy
by Robert Shetterly

"The reason we can’t talk about conspiracy is because it is the modus operandi. It isn’t the elephant in the room, it is the room itself."
