Last updated: Thursday Dec. 2, 2004 -- Black Box Voting requests retraction from Keith Olberman, along with an explanation of why MSNBC alleged such an untruth. We have given Olberman the opportunity to correct his factually flawed editorial by having Bev Harris appear on his show.
Contrary to Olberman's assertions, neither he nor his staff have EVER asked Harris to show anyone the Volusia County tapes. They have not asked Harris to come on the show since November 8. Harris did not come to Florida until November 12.
Olberman's producers had asked Harris to appear on the Countdown show twice, on Nov. 5 and Nov. 8. Each time, after Harris cleared her schedule to appear and shortly before the show, Olberman's producers canceled the appearance without explanation.
Harris showed the Volusia County tapes to CNN cameramen, but Harris has never been asked to show any Volusia County materials to any MSNBC producers, or NBC producers. The NBC local affiliate in Palm Beach County asked for the LePore videotape, which Harris promptly provided. The tapes, when showed without editing, show clearly that Olberman's report was not accurate about the LePore incident either. An edited version of the LePore tape was aired on both Orlando and Palm Beach County NBC affiliates last night.
Also contrary to Olberman's claims, Harris is not making a documentary, but the makers of the Votergate documentary, an independent team who captured the Volusia County trash incident on film, are eager to interview Keith Olberman on camera to ask him why he produced this report.

Great, this is just great! Stating publicly that he doesn't vote, that journalists
shouldn't vote and now this. NASA we have a credibility problem here!

It got to page 3? Yikes! I posted it this morning, then had to go offline to take care of trivial things like earning a living.

I've never seen any proof of anything Bev has said, so it's
hard to believe what she says. I'd love to see tapes of the
machine receipts in the trash, but I haven't. If she wants
us to believe her, then she should put some of this stuff
on her website. If she had tapes of it, I think Keith would
love to show it.

I personally talked to Bev Harris and I believe her. They declined to go on Olbermann because they didn't have the evidence at the time, but MSNBC has twisted the story saying they aren't interested and are hiding something. That's just not true, Bev's team simply trusts the independant media more, further after the mocking comments on NBC news about Harris she wasn't inclined to accept the offer!
Put yourself in her position, would you have gone on a media interview after they trashed you? Probably not.

Couldn't this just be one way to create a controversy in order to get air time?
Afterall, the *networks* didn't want to give the whole voter fraud thing any credence at all to begin with...maybe this is KO's and BH's way of FORCING them to show the real evidence...

Then why can't we see some of the tape? How does she
expect anyone to believe her w/o some kind of proof?

Because the polling tapes are not going to change the result of the florida election, neither will the hacked tabulator, thats what she said, and lawyers who are going over it are saying!
She said all the evidence will be shown once they have it, they need to follow leads in several Florida counties which may overturn the state election, including Broward County, and litigate the election officers there in order to have the case.

I could see why Bev Harris wouldn't want to hand her tapes over (she has a lot riding on these), but I also see why Keith wants to verify their authenticity. So both are in CYA mode.

Ok, I'll quit harping on her, but I do understand why the press is afraid
to talk about her findings. I'm afraid to tell friends about them because
I can't show them any proof. I don't want the fraud to be thrown aside
because we look like conspiracy theorists.

Keith's staff got the wrong information about the situation and didn't help Countdown get a picture of what happened with Black Box Voting, and then this whole fight erupts.
I tell you, this is not the time for this. I encourage all of you to mail Keith and Bev and ask them to communicate directly about the issue! Mudslinging is not needed, this is democracy at stake and there was clear misunderstandings here all the way around.
First, Bev Harris got the wrong information from Olbermann about what happened, and was rightfully ticked off at the producers for MSNBC. Second, Keith got the wrong information from his staff, about who was verbally cancelling what, and therefore got a threat from the BBV for not telling the truth. There is no reason for all of this.
I say to each and every single one here, call and mail both of them and tell them to have a conversation about this. Lets get this resolved so BBV does go on Countdown, and explains everything just like they wanted to do!!

I hope Bev and Keith can sort this stuff out, both seem heroic in their own way to me. If I had to find one more credible than the other, Olbermann would come out ahead, but perhaps this is being blown out of proportion, and playing out too publicly.

This was part of Keith's blog tonight:
Complicating our effort is the fact that even as we hoped to provide a platform to publicize and illuminate her efforts, Ms. Harris had returned none of the messages left on her own voicemail by Countdown staffers since she spoke to our staffers briefly, twice, during the week of November 8. Only today did she even get back in touch with us, and was so belligerent, threatening, and demanding, that we have chosen to withdraw our invitation to her to appear, or to have videotape of her efforts played, on Countdown.
Threats against myself or my staff will not be tolerated. We are not only busting our humps on the voting irregularities beat, but we remain the only mainstream news organization to continue to cover this vital story. These are my people — they are running professional risks I can’t begin to describe — and I will stand up for them, first, last, and always.
Seems mending fences ain't gonna happen. :o

thanks, i just sent them an email.
this is what i said:
Mis-Communication - Let's fix that
Blackboxvoting.org and Olberman are the real heroes on this extremely important matter of election manipulation/rigging/FRAUD.
Please don't turn on each other vis a vis mis-communications and mis-understandings.
Please speak to each other directly, on every matter, from scheduling to editing. or whatever - don't rely on interns or assistant producers to make phone calls/contact in arranging pre-interview and on air schedule. Make an agreement that you'll speak directly with each other to confirm schedules.
Someone could be an outside operative running interference or deliberately sabatoging interview arrangements to keep Bev Harris from being interviewed on the air - obviously in order to suppresss information the public has a need and a right to know. No better way to ensure that goal by turning the two of you against each other.
think of it as a david and goliath struggle, and one that david had better win for the sake of restoring our democracy.
