NATO winning battles, losing Afghanistan
A study on the US-led invasion of Afghanistan sees little hope of saving the state unless a strategic overhaul is enacted. The resurgence of the Taliban and the opium trade along with weak central government play against any battles NATO and US troops might win. Iran is a natural ally, but Washington's "axis of evil" stance makes any dialogue unlikely. (Feb 1, '08)
