If you add the issue raised on today's Top Recommended diary : Army Torture Whistleblower commited to sanatory
to this: MANDATORY Mental-health screening of children, hospital patients
you get a scary pattern converging:
A Bulgarian remembers: "This is how they got the kids to turn in their parents. You played with the State, or you were labelled a nutty kid."
Bush's panels decide what constitutes insanity...
and not Doctor's groups, which are getting upset with the mandatory mental screening plan over its marked absence of medical input or reference.
I smell a BIG Orwellian rat here!!!

(1) US in U-turn over Gulf war syndrome
for more than a decade, the UK, US, Australian and Canadian governments have disputed this, claiming that their symptoms are hard to attribute and often psychological in origin.
Now the US authorities have changed their stance, prompted by recent American research which suggests there is a disease with a physical basis linked to chemical exposure in the Gulf.
(2) SKEWED
In Skewed, Martin Walker takes a penetrating look at the ‘emerging illnesses’: Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), Gulf War Syndrome (GWS), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Biochemists, nutritionists and a group of doctors calling themselves clinical ecologists are convinced of an environmental cause for these illnesses.. The book traces the chemical companies’ arguments against their products causing illnesses and it tracks the growth of the theory promoted by them that individuals who report symptoms of chemically induced ill health have personality disorders. The book asks how psychiatric theories of ‘unexplained illness’ have managed to gain ascendancy and shape the diagnosis, research funding and public perception
(3) American Health Association reacts with free ‘post-election selection trauma’ counseling
More shocked John Kerry supporters on Wednesday sought psychological help with “post-election selection trauma” in South Florida, prompting the American Health Association to officially release symptoms of the disorder and open its doors for free counseling. Rob Gordon, executive director of the AHA, told the Boca Raton News. “There’s a lot of older Democrats here and they outnumber Republicans and you don’t want an epidemic of suicides with the elderly. So our counseling center is now open free to those with post-election selection depression, PEST, who need to exorcise their demons.”
Funny, I thought Bush won on Florida... How could he, if Dems outnumber Repugs ? -- law
(4) We just lit 'em up with gunfire
In one 48-hour period, we killed over 30 civilians in vehicles that got past our roadblocks. We just lit 'em up with gunfire. But when we went to pull the charred corpses out of the cars we never found any weapons. They were just civilians. I could start feeling the depression come back. I knew what it was from." In a meeting one day, his lieutenant asked him if he was feeling OK. Massey replied no, and told the lieutenant that "we're committing genocide and leaving enough depleted uranium around to continue genocidal activity for a long time." "Do you really believe that?" the lieutenant asked. "Yes," replied Massey, "or I wouldn't have said it." "I knew my career in the Marine Corps was over at that point," he added.
Sent back to the States for medical reasons, Massey returned to the Marine base at 29 Palms, Calif., and was told to report to the mental health clinic. There, the first psychiatrist he spoke with told him, "I don't deal with conscientious objectors [COs]."
"I knew right away we were going to have a problem," Massey said, "because my response to her was, 'Well, if you call not wanting to kill innocent civilians being a CO' and she came back with, 'Need I remind you that you are still in the military?'" Refusing to back down, Massey retorted, "Woman, this isn't my military because the Marine Corps I enlisted in was run by the Geneva Conventions. We didn't kill civilians, and we damn sure didn't cover it up."
(5) This is not an isolated incident
.."three or four" other U.S. soldiers from Iraq .. were also sent to Landstuhl for psychological evaluations or "combat stress counseling" after they reported incidents of detainee abuse or other wrongdoing by American soldiers
On June 15, 2003, Sgt. Frank "Greg" Ford, a counterintelligence agent in the California National Guard's 223rd Military Intelligence (M.I.) Battalion stationed in Samarra, Iraq, told his commanding officer, Capt. Victor Artiga, that he had witnessed five incidents of torture and abuse of Iraqi detainees at his base, and requested a formal investigation. Thirty-six hours later, Ford, a 49-year-old with over 30 years of military service in the Coast Guard, Army and Navy, was ordered by U.S. Army medical personnel to lie down on a gurney, was then strapped down, loaded onto a military plane and medevac'd to a military medical center outside the country.
His commander tried to have Ford declared delusional due to combat stress to cover up the allegations of prisoner abuse.
