12.5 Million People in Need of Food Aid
"Unless urgent and effective aid is provided, thousands may die."
Paul O'Brien, Overseas Director

I wanted to make you aware of a very urgent food crisis in Ethiopia. According to Concern Ethiopia's Country Director, Aine Fay, "Food supply is a major problem. The teams here are being forced to make awful choices. There are around 100 malnourished children arriving at the clinics each day. There are not enough resources to treat everyone. We are having to choose between life and death, and we shouldn't have to do that."

Concern is launching an emergency appeal to raise at least $3 million to scale up operations to respond to the deteriorating situation. Emergency Response Team members have been deployed to Ethiopia.

We are currently providing supplementary food to 1,500 severely malnourished children and pregnant and lactating women and expect that figure to double in the next few weeks. Having worked in Ethiopia since 1984, we are very well placed to respond to this awful crisis.

I urge you to give what you can and to forward this to anyone you think could help.

Once again thank you for caring.
