The whole damn think stinks to high heavens. The WH, neo-cons and the PTB know that the country is on the alert for anything that could start a war with Iran... but the ease of pushing Georgia into a confrontation with Russia provides an easy substitute which conveniently...

Reignites the cold war
Continues the neo-con agenda... and puts it back on track
Plays to peoples fears which
makes it easier to manipulate public opinion
puts sentiment behind a military buildup
could restart a draft
gives McCain a boost right before the election
pumps money into the military industrial complex pocketbook
takes peoples minds off the disastrous economy
can pump money into the economy... even if there is no money to pay for it
gives the adminstration(s) a new bogeyman
allows the continued attack against the Constitution and liberties while people are distracted and fearful
... among other things.

Anyone has to admire the Synergy here. Your tax dollars working creatively. The full force and credit of your government at the service of the McCain Campaign.

Yep... if they can't get what they want by pursuing an offensive against Iran... they simply change the target and tactics and (correctly) believe that people will fall in line.

Their willingness to do whatever it takes is indisputable and when they can do it with someone else taking the initiative it is perfectly aligned with their motives.

And now we see another of the basic sinister purposes behind those "Think-Tanks" like the AEI, Heritage Foundation and others. They are all over the airwaves pumping it. I think you've got it right Nite Owl.

The Republican Party is truly the Party of War Lies and Greed. They will do and say anything to remain in power.
The Leadership of that Party makes their living lying the American people into ruin and war. We can see the future they and McCain have planned for us all and the wreck and loss of innocent lives here or around the world mean nothing to them.

What would we as a country do if Russia made a deal with Mexico or Cuba to place their missles there? The only hope I saw was on Washington Journal call-ins this morning. People were overwhelmingly against the anti-Russian rhetoric of the guests from the right wing think-tanks fomenting for restarting of the cold war.

You know TROU... what have nations and leaders done anytime that their citizenry become a little too wise to their ways and and a little too restless with the state of affairs ?

They start wars. Wars distract, unite and rally people with a sense of nationalism... and God knows that the state of affairs in the United States fits like a glove.

And.. you are right, this is little different than the Cuban missile crisis. They expect that Russia would sit idly by and allow the U.S. and NATO to fence them in with a missile shield ? Not quite. Russia would not allow it any more than the we would allow Russia to build a "defense" system in Canada and Mexico. Some would say... "But if Russia is not going to attack they have nothing to fear". How stupid do they really expect people to be ? Pretty damned stupid... imho.

Yes it has been the way of rulers from the begining of recorded history. What always gets me is how so many people swallowed it over and over again throughout history. In ancient times and up until quite recently historically speaking the "people" had little choice. They were required to sacrifice their lives and their loved ones on the altar of some ruler's ambitions or glory, and as you say as a distraction from their egregious mis-rule.

The thing that blows my mind is how it still works with so many people even here in America and in modern times. As we speak, on C-Span the "Heritage Foundation" is hosting a conference of warmongers. These creatures are paid to make a propaganda case for organized murder (war). I could not sleep at night were that my job, but these people kiss their wives and children good-night and in the morning as they leave for "work" and they never think about the lives they have and do help destroy.

That fact that McCain and the Republicans were and are willing to lie to stoke the flames of war for political power should tell anyone what he and they are.

I have been called biased against Republicans. I would like to not be biased against anyone, but seeing what they do and are willing to do, I have no choice.

ITA with everything you've said here.

The only concern the warmongers have is which end of the barrel they are on... as long as they have the trigger.

I almost believe they would pursue mutually assured destruction if they knew they would survive it.

You would think that enough people would wise up to the repetitious cycle of war to realize that people are just pawns at the whim of the PTB.

Guess we are doomed to repeat history until enough people realize that nearly all "peoples" have the same goals... it is only the powermongers that perpetuate the pursuit of war.
