The Pentagon says more than 5,500 servicemen have deserted since the war started in Iraq.

Bush set a good example the way he slimed out of fighting in Vietnam ... these guys are just following their Commander in Chief's example. Of course the National Guard is no haven for avoiding combat like it was in Vietnam so Canada is the only option now for these servicemen.

I believe that is in the UCMJ????

Anyone know how to get to Canada? I think the fact that voter fraud has been proven is a good reason. Bush did not win Ohio! would you go to war for Kerry?

I think Hinzman's case is entirely different than the rest. He met a girl who was a Quaker and they were married. He converted to that religion and has been an active participant. His CO status seems pretty strong to me....and he is willing to fulfill his contract, just as a non-combat soldier.

The rest are merely freeloaders who are skirting out when their country needs them because they thought all of those "perks" the military offers came without a price. They are like pigs at the trough...always ready to eat from it but never there when it needs filling. I hope they all spend time in the brig for desertion...unless they really have a strong CO case that the government misjudged.

Does anyone know what the size of our active duty military is? I think it's like a million, and about 4 million can be called up. Does anyone know if this is correct, or where I could find out?

I tend to agree with this soldier's statement:

People should have a right to say, 'I'm not fighting in that war. That's an illegal war. There's illegal stuff going on the ground. I'm not going,'" says House. "And anyone who says soldiers should go to jail if they don't fight in an illegal war is persecuting them."

This war is illegal and it is NOT necessary to protect the US. Fighting in Iraq is not protecting our freedom or safety in any capacity and it looks like their attempt to force freedom is not working very well.
