NASA head to resign: reports

1 hour, 41 minutes ago   Science - AFP

WASHINGTON (AFP) - NASA (news - web sites) administrator Sean O'Keefe is expected to resign his job at the helm of the US space agency this week.

The Orlando Sentinel newspaper reported that O'Keefe, who has led NASA for the past three years, is a top candidate to head Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

O'Keefe led the National Aeronautics and Space Administration during one of its most tumultuous periods ever, which saw the calamitous 2003 Columbia shuttle disaster and steep budget cuts, as well as ambitious plans to send astronauts back to the moon and eventually to Mars.

US Representative Dave Weldon (news, bio, voting record), a Republican whose district abuts the Kennedy Space Center (news - web sites) in Florida, told the Sentinel that he believes O'Keefe "is taking the job at LSU," and will be hard to replace at NASA.

"The president's going to have to come up with a strong leader who can follow up on return to flight," Weldon said.

"It's going to be a busy year for NASA, and whoever steps into Sean's shoes is going to find himself having to get a lot of things done quickly."

Before joining NASA, O'Keefe, 48, had spent less than a year as deputy director of the White House budget office.

During the administration of the first President Bush (news - web sites), O'Keefe was comptroller and chief financial officer at the Defense Department, and served as Secretary of the Navy during the last few months of his term.

When O'Keefe was confirmed by the Senate in December 2001, his chief task was resolving billions of dollars in cost overruns for the international space station program.

That mandate was overtaken however by the loss of the Columbia as it re-entered Earth's atmosphere over east Texas in February 2003, killing seven astronauts and prompting a period of intense reflection about the direction of the US space program.

Things get curiouser and curiouser, don't they? I don't know what to make of the previous post that mentions Sean O'Keefe, but the second I heard this on CNN I wondered if there was a connection.

The "NERVA" concept was first proposed back in the 1950's, as the most efficient method to get humans into interplanetary space and to a permanent manned Moon base. The NERVA engine would not use nuclear fission as a propulsive mechanism per-se, but rather would expel super-heated hydrogen, flowing through a nuclear fission reactor, as an ultra-high-speed exhaust. The idea was shelved at NASA in 1973 [though, with thanks to Rick Sterling for locating them, documents available on the Internet reveal the Department of Defense continued development of nuclear propulsion technologies well into the 1990s ? where Sean O?Keefe, as former Secretary of the Navy, undoubtedly became familiar with them].

Ostensibly, NASA's cancellation of its thermal nuclear rocket program was due to "excessive development costs" -- even though a fully functioning prototype (above) had already been continuously test fired for several hours (orders of magnitude beyond the ~8 minutes for the current Shuttle engine burn time) in the late 1960?s. In fact, NERVA seems to have been terminated for the same reason that NASA hasn?t returned to the Moon in over thirty years: such a quantum leap in deep space capabilities was, for some reason, quietly considered at that time "premature."

NERVA therefore stayed on the NASA "scrap heap," along with all its other developed but curiously unused space technologies, for over three decades ? until "Bush happened."

Now, the nuclear rocket idea seems to once again be en-vogue. According to another story on space.com, the Bush administration is suddenly pushing forward, not only with the old nuclear rocket concept, but (behind the scenes) the larger notion of using it to send humans to Mars ?within the decade.?

This dramatic turn of events should not in anyway be surprising to the readers of these pages.

The Bush family, with their ties to various secret societies (like The Order of the Knights of Malta) and deep roots in the Republican Party, is a political dynasty perhaps unmatched in American history. So far, it can boast of twice holding the presidency, and at one time held sway over the governor?s mansions in two of the Nations most populous states, Texas and Florida. It is also a family that seems to have an ongoing fascination, if not affinity, for the planet Mars ?.

As we have previously documented, the first President Bush (41), had quite an interest in not only in Mars, but in Cydonia ? and the ongoing research of Enterprise principal investigator, Richard C. Hoagland.

With all these "Bizarre" leads spread out in several threads, we are either:

Being lead out on a hilarious snipe hunt.
Uncovering the plot of a group of super wacko's.
Or are in for some real weird stuff to happen in the world.

I don't like any of these points, what do you think?

It's going to get really weird. Look up the group Bohemian Club and Bohemian Grove, which the Bushes and cronies belong to. It is really wacko.

Okay, guys, now we are beyond bizarre. I feel like Alice having fallen through the looking glass.

I've NEVER been a conspiracy theorists (besides JFK....wink.gif) but this is getting curiouser and curiouser.

To further make my point:

(1) Being lead out on a hilarious snipe hunt.: Bush and Rove are sitting on the front lawn of the Whitehouse right now drinking keystone beer from plastic cups laughing their ___ off. I can almost visualize these two rolling around laughing so hard that their faces are red and tears are welling up in their eyes. I believe he who laughs last laughs best. It won't be so funny when we do tie some of the election fraud to the white house.

(2) Uncovering the plot of a group of super wacko's.: That these are real leads and not planted by Rove like a trail of poison bread crumbs. This isn't funny at all. We have a religious super fanatical group wasting billions of dollars on their beliefs and throwing the US into a dark age of control and religious wars. I don't know what to do about that, to extreme for my imagination.

(3) Or are in for some real weird stuff to happen in the world. :
Or they are right and we are fixing to see some evil ____. No comment here........

When I saw the news article that the head of NASA was resigning, I too wondered if there was a link to the story circulating. When I did the search and found a complaint with Feeney, O'Keefe and Yang mentioned, it struck me as too coincidental that two different people have made the same charge involving similar tactics:

Note that the charges were dismissed. Still, it's just too coincidental.

Just because a charge was dismissed, doesn't mean there wasn't something there. We had a staffer who killed his son during a domestic argument and the "boys" had it changed to justifiable homicide and had a party afterwards to celebrate. It happens.
