I'm wondering if anyone has checked into the possibility of a Diebold related boycott. Or has information that would help facilitate one.

I went through my ATM drive through yesterday and lo and behold what did it say on the machine? Diebold.

I ran a quick google on Diebold ATM machines, and it appears there are other manufacturers out there.

Also it appears that at some point their stock had taken a hit already due to the voting machine controversey and legal problems.

I'm not sure how widely the Diebold ATM machines are used, but if there are other banks in my area that don't use Diebold for their ATMs: I could move my account to one of them and let them know why.

Diebold apparently has had worm or virus problems with its ATMS as well.

That one is easy for me to boycott, I never use the ATM. But it would be interesting to find out what else they make. Note... they have no problems with a paper trail in the ATMs.

Death to Diebold!

No passive boycotting will do the trick.
We must go straight for the jugular.

If you want some real peace of mind, take a look at the flash animation on their website: "We won't rest ...Until our voting technologies not only count votes,, they make sure every vote is counted...... blink.gif unsure.gif rolleyes.gif blink.gif unsure.gif rolleyes.gif blink.gif unsure.gif rolleyes.gif

But here's the one that really begins to trigger the irony-induced projectile vomiting impulse: Diebold Secures The Founding Documents Of America's History

Once the bank purchases the hardware from Diebold, Diebold is out of the picture. The software is provided by the Bank's data processor, either in house or via a network interface. So if we move our accounts from Diebold using banks, it's the bank that suffers...not Diebold. I worked for a Credit Union and Diebold was pretty much the forerunner in ATM hardware..so a lot of these instituitions had them in place from late 80s..early 90s. The financial institution would have to lose a lot of accounts in order to replace the machines. sad.gif

I suggested that a non-profit company be formed making voting machines that printed out 2 vote receipts 1 for the box, and 1 for the pocket, and that were more affordable the Diebold machines. If we banded together now and created this they would be some what forced out. I suggested that the machines were not online but only networked at each polling office. I also suggested that the election data be forwarded by phone to the state office.

Maybe so, and maybe in the future people would hesitate to buy anything from Diebold. And maybe Diebold stock would go down further than it has already.

And if enough people get involved in it, maybe a statement would be made and heard about Democracy. And we might show some economic clout like with Sinclair when they wanted to broadcast the anti Kerry movie and their stock plummeted.

Those are the kinds of opportunities to look for, where we can have an economic or other impact that is important to the company and/or the administration they support in way too many ways.
