dontknow.gif Well, You never know what teenagers mean by these things. I see he's sporting some Anarchist symbols on his shirt, book-bag etc... But, who knows? It's not like he would tell me even if he knew because he's just....like that. I do know that he said he noticed I have been worried. He also said that everyone at school knows the words to this song. Interesting what goes on in the minds of our youth huh?

When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
He said,
"Son when you grow up, will you be the saviour of the broken,
The beaten and the damned?"
He said
"Will you defeat them, your demons, and all the non believers, the plans that they
have made?"
Because one day I leave you,
A phantom to lead you in the summer,
To join the black parade."

When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
He said,
"Son when you grow up, will you be the saviour of the broken,
The beaten and the damned?"

Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me.
And other times I feel like I should go. Through it all, the rise and fall, the
bodies in the streets.
When you're gone we want you all to know We'll Carry on,
We'll Carry on
Though your dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on
Carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart I cant contain it
The anthem wont explain it.

And we will send you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back
Lets shout it loud and clear
Do you fight it to the end
We hear the call to
To carry on
We'll carry on
Though your dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated You're weary widow marches on

And on we carry through the fears
Ooh oh ohhhh
Disappointed faces of your peers Ooh oh ohhhh
Take a look at me cause
I could not care at all Do or die
You'll never make me
Cause the world, will never take my heart
You can try, you'll never break me
Want it all,
I'm gonna play this part
Wont explain or say i'm sorry
I'm not ashamed,
I'm gonna show my scar
You're the chair, for all the broken Listen here, because it's only..
I'm just a man,
I'm not a hero
Just a boy, who's meant to sing this song
Just a man,
I'm not a hero
I -- don't -- care
Carry on
We'll carry on
Though your dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated You're weary widow marches on
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
We'll carry
We'll carry on

I used to hear this song quite a bit from my son a few years ago. If you look up the supposed meaning of the song in Wikipedia you'll see it's supposed to be about a prolonged death There is also a video of it on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qx-2Hj-q4Dc

I don't suggest watching it or listening to the music if you are in a dark place in your life, actually. I put in the category of dark emo music.

Anyway, I'm glad he's over this music. yucky.gif
heart
I'm not at all in a dark place in my life, and he's certainly happy....he's always happy. He's funny, it just could be "don't worry, we'll manage" kind of thing. He does like the music and he makes me laugh when he tells me I'm more "emo" than he is. Lately, he decided "I'm so scene"! I asked, "what is that"....He said, "Nevermind, it's sort of like emo without cutting yourself." He cracks me up!

I read the title wrong
I thought it said your son wrote them for you

and as I read them, I thought these sounded familiar

the group is actually very Beatlesque in a 2008 way...

and like the song "Hurt"...it's lyrics can be taken many, many ways

The key word is when he says SHE
as that changes the sex from the first lines to that line

They have a language all of their own! smile.gif Actually I think each area of the US has their own little vocabulary..

I relate though, there is always music going on here - all types, all generations. It's all good!

heart
I actually like the song once I listened to it, but it looks post-apocalyptic to me.

Tell your son that there are seven of us on this thread, all reading the lyrics he provided, together.

It's probably the one area I've seen you write on over the years that we probably agree more on than anything else.

heart
He would blush, and he went to sleep anyway.

He is a truly strange child. He's writing a book upstairs and comes out saying "I've got writer's block, let's go for a walk". He said two days ago "In 3rd period today; I looked up and realized Autumn had arrived". I started laughing and asked him, "Is that the opening of a chapter of your book." Sometimes he is so prescient and succinct too, that it makes you go "HHHHMMMM".

sounds like he has talent
tell him to keep writing and to keep the music going

note-this is why rap/emo/whatever is to them what people we listened to is to us. Our parents were scared of things
we watched and listened to, now looking back, was ludacris to be scared of those benign things.
It's just written as a snapshot to that exact time and moment the person wrote the lyrics for, to mean or not mean=
only the writer knows.

This is Son #2? Not that Son #1 does not, but I think that Son #2 has your heart (so to speak) in a very special way.
heart
They both have my heart, but the oldest one is just going through one of those distant places. He'll get over it some day. He's a good kid.

Yes. This is the 2nd, the youngest and he's almost 17. Whew! I became his "mom" when he was four 1/2.

Though it's never "over". It's still getting closer to being over....and, that's a good thing I think. I don't want to be planted!
