LSU is defending her national title this year with two rookie
quarterbacks...the upperclassman couldn't stay out of bars
or refuse a hit on a joint...so he's playing at a small Mississippi
school - cest la vie. But, the Bengal Magic continued at Auburn tonight 26-21.
I know U. of FLA, Ga., Ala., USC, Mizzou, BYU, TX, Bosie State and Penn State all
had good weeks. We're just pleased to be in y'all's company. Looks like a season.

I wonder if we could just steal Chase Daniel...and Lee could be a backup...
we might compete for the whole enchalada again.
(BTW for castaways...Daniel is the U of Mizzou QB and Lee, LSU's rookie QB who came thru Saturday)

http://fvsports.com/forum/showthread.php?p=740717NCAA looking at Miles, LSU for recruiting violations
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quote:
The Jock Rap.com has learned from a reliable Michigan booster that Louisiana State head football coach Les Miles will be facing serious NCAA recruiting violations in the coming year. According to the source, these violations were made in the last two recruiting seasons, and the NCAA is considering an in-depth investigation into Miles’ and LSU’s recruiting practices. The allegations stem from violations allegedly made on the national college signing day over the past several years.
The source told us that the University of Michigan’s Athletic Department was made aware of the possible violations committed by Miles and that caused the Wolverines to back off their pursuit of him. If these allegations are true it would certainly validate the rumors circulating - that for years Les Miles’ recruiting practices and principles have been dirty. It would also raise questions of the Tigers’ national championship win on Monday night. We will let you know more as the story unfolds.
As for the NCAA’s pursuit of the violations, we are confident something will be made public in the coming months, but not holding our breaths. USC has been skirting punishment for alleged recruiting violations with a number of high profile players - including Reggie Bush and Joe McKnight - for a number of years.

The bayou visiting the swamp, us desert dwellers shake our heads and give thanks that we just have to watch for diamondbacks, javelina and cactus instead of guessing what's in the water. Then again, maybe that's why we sometimes get quarterbacks who hand off to the wrong team.

Yeah, what a day of surprises in the Big 12.
I seriously doubt any Big 12 team will go undefeated though. Texas has a brutal schedule (next three weeks -- Missouri, Ok. St., and Tech), and although OK St. and Tech both have good teams, I don't imagine either can run the table.
Only 10 undefeated teams left. Besides the three from the Big 12, the others are Alabama, Penn St., BYU, Utah, Boise, Ball St. and Tulsa.
Texas or Alabama the new No. 1? Will probably be the Tide, but could go either way.

I would guess Bama, because being No. 2, it's not as much of a move-up as Texas from No. 5. But could go either way. Texas arguably has the bigger win (given how GA has been playing), but Bama has played an overall more difficult schedule.

Wow! Mega impressive win for the Longhorns tonight. They just slaughtered No. 11 Missouri. At this point, they are the clear No. 1 team in the country.
But they are only halfway through their schedule gauntlet. OK State next week may be the best balanced team in the Big 12, and then they have to travel to Jones Stadium, where Tech is VERY tough.
I think the general thought, though, is that if Texas survives this stretch with only one loss, they are a legitimate title game contender.

I'm still not quite sure what to make of Tech, but their tough schedule starts this week at Kansas. Most of the national media pundits are totally dissing the Raiders. With Harrell and Crabtree, I don't think they're that bad. And their schedule is pretty favorable. If they can get past KU, they could well go 10-2. If not, maybe 9-3, but I don't see them collapsing like a house of cards. Their offense is too good.

Florida had the answer to the bench-clearing first touchdown Georgia scored last year. You know the incident I'm talking about, the one Mark Richt "claims" he didn't intend to happen, how his team "misunderstood" his intentions.
Florida's answer........score, baby, score.......use all your timeouts to prolong the agony...............then put in your backups so Georgia can see the future, and score some more. Enough said.

Baylor is a much improved team this year, though unfortunately, it's not going to show up in their won-loss record.
The coaches way over penalized UT in their poll today. Horns dropped all the way to No. 7, while OU stayed at No. 4. I don't get it. Has Stoops paid off the pollsters or something

UT beat OU and has played a *much* more difficult schedule.

Well, at least AP and the new BCS standings got it right and put Texas ahead of Oklahoma. Maybe the Sooners are really as good as people think, but I won't believe it until after their games against Tech and OSU. Right now, the Sooners remind me of a version of the old Texas Tech teams -- they score a ton of points with a gimmicky offense and don't play much defense.

Yeah, this year the North teams are a real drag on the conference. In fact, unless Tech wins out, it could very well cost the Big 12 a spot in the national title game, especially since Penn State looks like a *very* strong bet to go unbeaten.

IH,
Pretty exciting game tonight between LSU and Alabama. It should not disappoint. It would be better for Florida if Alabama wins, but there's just something about Saban....
Do LSU fans bear animosity towards Saban for leaving for Miami? Les Miles is a great coach, so I can't see it. Perhaps you can give some insight?

In my opinion, TT should jump Alabama in the BCS this week. I noticed that once Penn State lost today, commentators were not figuring them into any one lose scenario for the BCS National Championship.
dggfwtx
Nov 9 2008, 03:33 AM
I think Penn State is pretty much cooked, unless there were a weird set of circumstances, like last year.
But maybe not as much as you would think. One guy on a football list I'm on summed it up this way. For PSU to make it, two things would have to happen:
1. USC loses again
2. Missouri beats the Big 12 South champ.
Of course, the Big 12 South champ will probably be about a 20-point favorite over the Tigers, but I guess you can always hope .....
dggfwtx
Nov 9 2008, 03:37 AM
Actually, even that scenario might not be enough for the Lions. If Tech or OU is the Big 12 South team that lost to Mizzou, UT could still be sitting there at 11-1. And then there is the possibility of a 12-0 Utah team. So probably at this point, unless circumstances change pretty dramatically, PSU is realistically out of it.
Frenchy
Nov 9 2008, 10:37 AM
With MIZZOU's 41-24 win over K State coupled with the Kansas loss to Nebraska, the Tiger's are in the driver's seat for the Big 12 North title. Jeromy Macklin had another gread day.
The tribute to Aaron O'Neal was a real tear-jerker.
TammyJo58
Nov 16 2008, 08:54 AM
Florida continues to roll and hands its former coach, Steve Spurrier, the worst loss of his career. The Texas Tech v Oklahoma continues to loom large as a major factor in who plays in the BCS National Championship game.
Indianhead
Nov 16 2008, 10:06 AM
There is no doubt in my mind that the winner of the SEC Championship will play
the winner of the Big 12 Championship for the National Championship.
There is just no other scenario I can see this year.
It will be Alabama or Florida facing a great team...
either Tex Tech, Oklahoma or Texas playing Missouri...
and I think Missou has a fair chance...they
match up very well.
So....let me take a wild swing and suggest something
folks are imaging at this point...can ya imagine a
Florida vs Missouri National Championship?
Would y'all like to see Tebow vs Daniel?
Mclin vs Harvin? I sure would.
You say a two loss club shouldn't make it?
Well Missou plays in the toughest (God, I hate to admit that)
conference this year...and that means a whale of a lot.
Tech also deserves it though, and if it's UT or OU it would
still be THE BEST GAME available.
And, Florida? Well, they're just playing the best college
ball anywhere right now. I do not underestimate Alabama,
cause I know what Sabin did for LSU, we played 'em both.
Playing in The Swamp caused the spread to be bigger by FLA...
The Tide had to come to Death Valley for their win. And, the Tide
wore us out so much Troy State almost beat us Saturday at home.
Anywhooooooo...we get the conference championships first
and then the announcement...of the BCS...what a great time of year!!!
